Damascus Spikes

These knives are made from actual railroad spikes with contrasting carbon steels forged in.
Some spikes are also done in a San Mai style with a core of high carbon steel for better
performance. These knives are fun to make and although they are mostly a novelty
knife (usually only a dozen layers or so), they can be a good working tool as well.

HC Twist Damascus Railroad Spike

This spike is from the NY lines. It is an old spike that was stamped HC on the head
and has a fine grain of it's own in addition to the added L-6 steel in the blade's twist.
the blade (sharpened area) is 4 1/2", 9" total length. The rises on the twisted handle
and the spike head are mirror polished.

San Mai Damascus Railroad Spike

This spike knife has a 3 1/2" swept tip blade, 7 1/2" total length. The blade has
a core of 1084 high carbon steel sandwiched between damascus (san mai ). The
handle is twisted with the rises and head of the spike mirror polished. The knife
is shown with a "basket weave" pattern pouch sheath.
